Day 14
Nichole didn't like traveling too far from her small safe haven. The shopping mart had only been cleared out a week or so ago and already it was more of a home than anywhere else had been. On the road, you didn't have much to survive on. Having someplace to live, though, meant that you could build up your stores and go from there. It meant safety and some sense of belonging.
But this was a necessary trip. Hunting always was. She needed food. It was just herself to feed, but that was enough. She had to eat. And the best food out here was freshly hunted. Although most things in the store would hold up for quite some time, anything fresh was already rotting away and most of the canned goods had been looted. So freshly killed would be best.
Holding up her bow and notching the arrow, Nichole took a good look around for any sign of anything, be it deer, rabbit, squirrel. Anything would be good to have. She had an idea of making a stew, but that meant she had to find something small enough to carry back, because no way could she haul back a full sized deer.
The forest was beginning to thin out as she approached the highway again, and Nichole didn't like to think that she missed her opportunity. It would be dark soon and she didn't want to have to pull out a flashlight. So her eyes scanned everything, hoping to catch sight of any type of movement. Even a random walker wouldn't go amiss, just to be out of the stillness.

He was still too close to the camp. Hunting here would be ridiculous. His truck made a loud noise as he hit the gas. Another mile would put enough distance between himself and the smell of walkers and humans. Finding this group and making a camp like this had been a stroke of genius. Or of insane luck. Only someone as stupidly trusting as this guy had been would let him or Merle join them. Daryl wasn't much of a law breaker, but laws didn't apply anymore.
He spotted a car on the edge of the road, obviously not abandoned because of how clean it was. Pulling off, Daryl took a moment to look around for anyone. There was no movement, not even a walker in sight, and the man grinned. This would be stupidly easy. Just like those idiots back at the camp. You didn't just leave your things unattended out in the open.
Daryl climbed out of his truck, crossbow in hand. A second scan told him there was no one near and he crossed over to the car, still looking around. He didn't notice the 'theft' light blinking, so when he touched the handle, the car alarm started and the man jumped a mile before he started backing slowly away.
